I should send this out before the end of the day. Today is the feastday of St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus. We also know him as the patron saint of a happy death. But do we know why? There aren't even any details about his death. Where, when and how did St. Joseph die? But we've prayed his novena for a happy death countless times.
I finally found out why at mass today. The priest said in his homily that St. Joseph is the patron saint of a happy death because he died in Jesus's presence. Indeed, among all the major biblical characters, who else died in Jesus's presence? Our Mother Mary and all the apostles, except Judas who was alone hanging on a tree, died after Him. St. John also died before Jesus when he was beheaded in prison. So when we pray to St. Joseph for a happy death, we are praying that we be like him - that we die in Jesus's presence and have Him in our hearts. May it be so.
